Carnival!!

Meow….Meow….Meow….Why Kitty insists on sleeping with me I’ll never know. I’ve told her many times that the dog bed beside Little Girls bed is for ME ONLY. Still she manages to snuggle in beside me whenever she feels like it. I’ve been told that I’ll get used to it and that I must not make a fuss because she is part of the family too, but I still don’t care for it.

There is a slight breeze coming from the closet. I must investigate at once. I get up ever so slowly as not to wake Kitty. I silently slink past the frilly dresses, past the shiny black mary janes, and BAM! I find  myself Rio de Janeiro in the middle of Carnival! I can hardly see what’s going on, but everyone is having a great time. The performers are so beautifully dressed with the most elaborate costumes I’ve ever seen. I started talking to a local Bulldog names Luis. He told me that that this carnival is considered the biggest carnival in the world with two million people per day on the streets.

The first festivals in Rio date back to 1823. The carnival is supposed to last for 3 weeks, but it often runs overtime. I started to get a little hungry and I asked Luis if there was any good food here. Ah Muchacho! Try the Espetinhos. This is Brazil's version of shish kabob, espetinhos are tasty morsels of barbequed meat on a stick. The most common are sausage and chicken, and many Brazilians add ketchup or hot sauce and throw some farinha de mandioca, a type of crunchy flour, on top. There is also Milho verde. This is salad greens, or any food that isn't deep fried and over salted. Lots of  boiled corn-on-the-cob, served with butter. This is so great! I could stay here for quite some time.

What’s that I hear in the distance?…….”Jax, time for supper”. I trot out of Little Girl’s closet and down the stairs for supper. What a day! I’m exhausted. Those trips thru the closet really take it out of me……..Peace out, Pups!
